Piedmont Blues Preservation Society
The Piedmont Blues Preservation Society is an educational non-profit organization which was officially incorporated in the state of North Carolina in August 1985. The society is governed by a volunteer board of sixteen officers, representing a broad cross section of the local community. The general funding is provided through membership dues, souvenir sales, corporate and private donations and grants. The society currently has approximately one hundred active members.
The mission of the PBPS is the preservation and presentation of the American Blues tradition through live performances, educational programs and workshops, and the documentation of local North Carolina tradition through written, audio, visual and digital media, and our own Blues archives. The PBPS publishes a weekly online BLUES BLAST which is sent to members, other blues societies, individuals involved in the Blues recording industry and local media. Annual programs include a Blues Week and the Carolina Blues Festival, Regional Blues Challenges for Solo/Duo and Bands, and Blues in the Schools/Blues in the Centers programs.
The Society also serves as a referral agency for Blues Artists in the area, participates in other organizations' music-related programs and assists media and other interested persons in obtaining reference and historical media. Numerous PBPS members have been or are hosts of The Blues Hangover radio program on WNAA 90.1 FM and the PBPS provides some of the rare recordings used on this program.
