Blues Week 2002 Events

The blues is alive and well in the Piedmont for Blues Week 2002! Here are some great blues events to get you warmed up for the 16th Annual Carolina "Lite" Blues Festival.

Fri., May 10th BLUES WEEK KICK-OFF SHOW (WINSTON-SALEM): Sonny Rhodes, free concert, at the Fourth St. Jazz & Blues Concert Series, downtown Winston at Fourth & Poplar Streets. With an opening act. Showtime: 6:30 pm.
Sat., May 11 BLUES WEEK KICK-OFF SHOW (GREENSBORO): Cyril Lance at Greene Street Club, Greensboro - Located at 113 Greene Street, downtown GSO. Greensboro, it's your turn! This is the Blues Week 2002 kick-off show in the Gate City. All PBPS members get in for $9.00 (regular admission $10). Cyril Lance is a brilliant guitarist steeped in the blues. He'll have an incredible band with him: Johnny Neel on vocals (Allman Bros, Gov't Mule) Chris Carroll on bass, Kelly Pace on drums and Matt on hammond organ. Tickets for the 16th Annual Carolina 'Lite' Blues Festival will be available for purchase. Showtime 10pm.
 
Kings and Peaches at Ritchy's, Greensboro - Blues Week 2002 continues with Kings and Peaches at Ritchy's, downtown GSO at Elm and McGee.
 
Li'l Ed & The Blues Imperials at Double Door - In Charlotte. Chicago blues band,records for Alligator. Ed is clean and sober these days after a long bout of drinking and drug abuse. Fun band!

Sun., May 12 Allison King Band at Blind Tiger, Greensboro - Blues Week 2002 continues with Allison and her fine band at the corner of Walker and Elam, Greensboro.
Mon., May 13 Open Blues Jam at Red Lion, High Point - Blues Week 2002 continues with this great chance to jam with some of the area's great blues musicians at Red Lion Blues & Jazz Club, 2107 Kirkwood, High Point. Hosted by Mark 'Buddy Ro' Harrison of Fairlanes fame.
Wed., May 15 Open Blues Jam at Plum Krazy's, Greensboro - At College and West Market. The longest running open blues jam in the Triad. Hosted by those fine, fine women of Ladies Auxiliary! Another great event for Blues Week 2002.
 
Walter Trout at Gypsy's Live Blues, Myrtle Beach - Walter is hitting the Beach before his gig at the Carolina "Lite" Blues Festival on May 18th. Never hurts to catch Trout twice in one week. For more info. www.gypsysblues.com

Sat., May 18 Meet The Artist Workshop with Long John Hunter. 12pm. Tanglewood Pavilion. Free. Long John Hunter will talk about his life and times as a bluesman and demonstrate his guitar technique. A great chance to get up close and personal with a true journeyman of the blues!
 
16TH ANNUAL CAROLINA 'LITE' BLUES FESTIVAL - At Tanglewood Park, Clemmons! This is the event not to be missed.
