Shadrick at the Raven - they did a great job. I would also like to thank all of the PBPS members that made it out to the show for their support as well. This is probably also a good time for me to mention just how totally mindblowing the local musicians are in this area. Originally when planning the event we were hoping to round up 3 or 4 bands - instead we wound up with 7; all willing to take time our of their schedules to help support a family in need. That's just great, and what I've come to expect from the wonderful musicians and people in general in the Triad. Specifically, I would like to thank the Matt Hill Band, the Miles Blues Band, the Impacts, Bandit and Friends, the aforementioned PBPS Board Band, and last, but certainly not least, AKA for their support yesterday. | January 17, 2007 21:31 EST - I grew up in downtown Chicago on Clark Street. I love the blues.....it is the music of my soul. I have seen lots of blues since I moved here to North Carolina in 79. But this past weekend I saw some of the best Blues so far. What a great bunch of musicians. Matt Walsh, Matt Hill, Chuck Cotten and on Saturday night Max Drake.................they blew me away and all that were so fortunate to experience what these guys created. All I can say....why are these guys playing in WS (foothills and 6th and vine). If you get a chance to catch these guys it is worth whatever you have to do. From what I understand Matt Walsh lives in Kansas but returns to his original home in NC on a regular basis to play. He will be back in the beginning of March........go out and see these guys!!!

| December 30, 2006 22:17 EST - Hey, I'm a harp player who's been at it for nearly five years now. I'd love to get more experience playing in groups. At the moment, I go to the open jams when I am able to make them. My influences range from Sonny Boy Williamson II, Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Big Walter (favorite), George Smith, etc. etc. Anyways, I'm always looking to improve and receive honest criticism or advice from good blues musicians who care about the music. I'm not looking to get paid by anyone......just want to keep improving. If you think a harp player could add to your band at certain times, contact me or see me at an open jam. If my playing fits your stuff, then maybe we both could benefit. Personally, I think harmonica is a key ingredient in blues, especially Chicago styled. I've got my own rigs and play diatonic and chromatic harmonicas. I can always dig up and learn the key hooks or riffs to songs you may do from the recordings if that helps as well. Anyways.....thanks John or (Danno) | ||

| November 03, 2006 13:28 EST - Thanks to those who came out to see Blues World Order and Mighty Lester at the Flying Anvil on November 2. The music was fantastic; the crowd miniscule. 'Seems that old Gov't Mule kicked us hard, but we will continue our efforts to find the way somehow to prove Blues as a viable draw for these new venues. | ||

I wanted to thank my blues friends who got in touch in the last few weeks after the hearing about the announcement handing over of the torch by PBPS' prez John Amberg to Casey Hazelman. I appreciate your "missing you" comments(for those that I didn't tell...I resigned late this past spring...4 years on the board) and assure you that my family, health, and home are coming along well with the new found time that had been for the festival and the society. I hope you will continue to join me as a supporter and volunteer to the great PBPS mission of Keeping the Blues Alive.

| July 08, 2006 09:56 EST - Johnny Winter at the Flying Anvil - the man can still tear down the house! It's great to have a venue in good ole downtown GBoro that can accomodate an act like Mr. Winter. The crowd seemed totally into the performance after being warmed up by a great set from Cyril Lance. Johnny was a bit loud and the mix could have been better, but other wise a great show. Many thanks for Tom at EMF for getting the legendary Johnny Winter to Greensboro! | October 17, 2005 16:27 EST - I wonder if there are acoustic players 'round Asheville, who might like to get together every other week, and trade off Piedmont Blues tunes. I don't know many tunes, but certainly enough to share and contribute to a small circle of players, in a context where we may learn from one another. Now that it's getting cooler out, playing on a log cabin's long porch might not be the best bet; we can figure a place to play and practice. Write, if interested. Thanks, -- Jude-Em' | ||

| September 28, 2005 04:34 EST - From the shining lights hailed an incredible voice, quieting the crowd of thousands. I thought Hendrix was back! Performing with legendary blues artist James Cotton, Hubert Sumlin, Otis Rush, Lucky Peterson and many more, stands a young man that is making sure that ‘the Blues’ remains alive. With a voice like fiery silk, Charles’ plays the bass like the devil just came up and made a deal with him. Quotes from fans: Reviewer: Kingston Mines Fan Within the 7 years I have been hanging out at Kingston Mines, I have never seen a concert there. Charles released his CD on April 14th and man what a show. It was like being at a full production concert. Wow! I was blown away. He started the show off with these incredible vocalists, it was like being at a p-funk show! The show started off intense and then he slowed it down to some deeeeep, deeeeep, low down blues that I haven't heard any of the majors match. He has a song that was written for his mother, "Katie's Alone", very nice! Man, I know this guy is going to hit the top soon. Bravo Charles. I'm glad I had the chance to experience the "Mack Attack!". Reviewer: SuiJuris I was fortunate enough to be at this band's CD release party, and I agree completely with the previous reviewer. Charles Mack's CD is moody, taking the listener on a complete journey through bluesy soulfulness to I-just-gotta-move-ness, if you know what I mean, and everything in between. Mack has assembled a group of world-class artists and together they have created a dynamic statement of what blues music is today. I haven't had the CD out of my player since I got it. http://www.charlesmack.com Website http://www.cdbaby.com/charlesmack | ||

The festival committee has just about wrapped up our selection for this year, however, in celebration of PBPS's 20th anniversary we will be doing more shows(acoustic too) in celebration. So, I would suggest that you send your disk to PBPS, to John Amberg with a note about your interest. Good luck and good rockin'! P.S. David Sheppard closed about 2 years ago and moved down to SC but maybe someone can give you some more info. I am sure you will hear from others. BTW, the festival date is Saturday, May 7th. Be sure to sign up for our weekly email list too so you can receive updates if you like.
