![]() The memory of blues giant Muddy Waters will be evoked at the 15th Annual Carolina Lite Blues Festival, Saturday, May 19th at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons. Big Bill Morganfield (the son of Muddy Waters who records for Blind Pig Records), Pinetop Perkins and Carey Bell will join Steady Rollin' Bob Margolin in an all-star band dubbed Bob Margolin's Rolling Fork Revue (named after Muddy Waters' hometown). The 15th Annual Carolina Lite Blues Festival is presented by the Piedmont Blues Preservation Society and Miller Brewing Company of Eden, NC. Big Bill Morganfield and Bob Margolin share a distinct musical bond. Morganfield is Muddy Waters' son, and Margolin was Muddy's protégé and bandmate for many years. Margolin co-produced Morganfield's debut CD and the two have toured together many times in recent years. Joining them will be Muddy Waters' piano player and blues legend Pinetop Perkins. Perkins and Margolin anchored what many consider to be one of Muddy Waters' finest bands for many years. Well into his eighties, Perkins still continues to tour and record. Rounding out the band is Chicago blues harp player and Alligator recording artist Carey Bell. A veteran of the Chicago blues clubs, Bell has toured the world with his band. CD releases like Mellow Down Easy and Good Luck Man have endeared Bell to music critics and proponents of the classic Chicago blues sound. Bob Margolin's Rolling Fork Revue, however, is just one of six bands on the line-up for the 15th Annual Carolina Lite Blues Festival. The popular female blues trio Saffire-The Uppity Blues Women will make their second appearance at the PBPS annual festival (their first one was in 1993). Their rootsy and sometimes outrageous songs and live performances have garnered Saffire an international following. But these mainstays of the Alligator record label are regional favorites as well, having played to sell-out crowds across North Carolina and Virginia. Another offspring of a famous blues guitarist will perform at the 15th Annual Carolina Lite Blues Festival: Bernard Allison, son of the late Luther Allison. Bernard has carved his own niche as an incredible live act, evidenced by his show-stopping performance at last year's Bull Durham Blues Festival. Filling the zydeco slot this year is Rounder recording artists Geno Delafose and French Rockin' Boogie. Geno makes his first appearance at the Carolina Lite Blues Festival this year, and will continue the high-energy tradition of zydeco performers at this event. Winston-Salem blues man Roy Roberts will bring his soulful guitar and voice to the stage this year. Roberts has a brand new CD and a loyal following here and in Europe, where he regularly performs. Opening this year's festival is the 2000 PBPS Talent Competition winners The Allison King Band. A vocalist of extraordinary range and power, Allison and her four-piece group led by guitarist Bill Jordan, are a top draw on the Triad live music scene. The gates will open at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 19th. The music will start at 2:00 p.m. Advance tickets are $15, and $35 for limited Gold Circle seats. Tickets will be $20 on the day of the show. Advance tickets are on sale now at Borders Books, Music and Video, in Winston-Salem, The Record Exchange in Winston-Salem and Greensboro, Sam Moss Guitars in Winston-Salem, BB's Compact Discs in Greensboro, School Kids Records in Greensboro, David Sheppard Instruments in Greensboro, The Red Lion Blues & Jazz Club in High Point, and Triangle Billiards in High Point. Tickets will also be sold via mail through the PBPS by sending a certified check or money order to Carolina "Lite" Blues Festival, P.O. Box 9737, and Greensboro, NC 27429. Mail orders will not be accepted after Monday, May 13. There will be plenty of ice cold Miller Beer products available, as well as wine, bottled water and soft drinks. Many food vendors will also be on hand, as well as arts and craft vendors. Miller Brewing Company of Eden, NC is the title sponsor of the Carolina "Lite" Blues Festival.
