2:00     Peter May and Terraplane
In every one of the 20 years of the Carolina Blues Festival's existence, acoustic blues in one style or another has been included in the lineup. For this year's acoustic spot, the PBPS looked no further than right here in the Triad with Piedmont bluesman Peter May. Winston-Salem's Peter May has become a fixture in the local and regional blues scene as a solo artist or fronting his two regular bands; the Rough Band and Terraplane.

At this year's Festival, Peter will be accompanied by Terraplane, which features one of the area's best harp players, Mike "Weso" Wesolowski, and legendary bass player Bobby Kelly. Just last year Weso and Peter May contributed their own compositions to the original soundtrack of the movie Root Doctor. Peter also has a solo CD to his credit, the brilliant Black Coffee Blues. Learn more about him at www.petermaymusic.com.
2:45     Mighty Lester
Winners of the 2005 Piedmont Blues Preservation Society Blues Challenge, Might Lester is a raucous 8-piece blues/swing band with a three-piece horn section hailing from Raleigh, NC. Mighty Lester had an outstanding showing in Memphis for the 2006 International Blues Challenge, garnering rave reviews, radio airplay and international tour offers. They were also crowned the champions of the Triangle Blues Society 2001 Blues Competition and made the semi-final round in the 2002 International Blues Challenge.

More recently, Mighty Lester had the Blues Track of the Day five times and the Blues Track of the Week two times on Garageband.com. They also were featured as the opening track on a recent episode of the Roadhouse Podcast. Check out the band at www.mightylesterband.com.
4:00     Rosie Ledet and the Zydeco Playboys
Zydeco returns to the stage with the dynamic Rosie Ledet and the Zydeco Playboys. In a male-dominated genre, Rosie has carved a significant niche for herself with her spirited accordion playing, her sultry singing voice, and her sometimes bawdy material. Like many Zydeco bands, Rosie's Zydeco Playboys are comprised almost entirely of family members. Her husband, Morris Ledet is on bass, her father-in-law Lanice Ledet plays rub board, and nephew Lukey Ledet is on drums. Rosie Ledet's latest release is Pick It Up, issued in 2005. Check Rosie and the band out at www.rosieledet.com.
5:30     Steady Rollin' Bob Margolin, with Special Guest Nappy Brown
Chicago blues is a staple at the Carolina Blues Festival, and the PBPS is honored to once again present the Triad's direct connection to Muddy Waters and that classic Chicago blues sound: Steady Rollin' Bob Margolin. Margolin performed with Muddy Waters from 1973 through 1980 alongside such blues legends as Pinetop Perkins, Luther "Guitar Jr." Johnson and Carey Bell. He has been nominated this year for a Blues Music Award for Best Instrumentalist in the category of guitar (long overdue, we must say!).

For the 20th Annual Carolina Blues Festival, Bob will be doing what he does best; leading and directing a blues band that includes outstanding long-time blues greats: vocalist Nappy Brown (who performed and toured with Bob in that classic Muddy Waters Band lineup), and Mookie Brill (who, playing upright and electric bass, harp, guitar, drums and vocals, has played and traveled extensively with Bob Margolin). With Nappy and Mookie joining Bob on stage, Festival Park will surely feel a lot like the West Side of Chicago. These artists' websites can be found at www.bobmargolin.com (Bob Margolin), and www.bluemountainartists.com (Nappy Brown).
7:15      Maria Muldaur
Although many music lovers may remember her for her 1974 Grammy-Nominated hit "Midnight At The Oasis," blues fans are well aware that Maria Muldaur is one of the brightest stars in today's blues scene. Her most recent CD, Sweet Loving Old Soul, was nominated for a Grammy award for Best Traditional Blues Release. Muldaur's previous CD, Richland Woman Blues, was nominated for a Grammy in the same category. A native of Greenwich Village, New York, Ms. Muldaur has toured the world and has at least one platinum album to her credit. Ms. Muldaur is making her first appearance at the Carolina Blues Festival. Go to www.mariamuldaur.com to learn more about her.
9:00      Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers
Headlining the 20th Annual Carolina Blues Festival will be West Coast blues masters Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers. One of the genre's most influential and talented blues harp players, Rod Piazza fronts a top-notch blues-swing band that also features his wife, Honey Piazza on piano. Her prowess on the keyboard has earned her yet another Blues Music Award (formerly the W.C. Handy Award) for Best Instrumentalist of the Year in the piano category. In fact, Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers are nominated in the category of Band of the Year. They have an impressive string of critically acclaimed CDs under their belt, yet they are best known for their incredible live shows. Their new concert DVD, Big Blues Party, released in 2005, is a fine representation of Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers on stage. Check them out at www.themightyflyers.com.
11:00     Festival After Party at Europa Cafe
The Fairlanes will perform at Europa Cafe after the Festival, starting at 11:00 pm. Europa Cafe is located at 200 N. Davie Street in downtown Greensboro, next to the Cultural Center and the Festival site. There will be a $5.00 cover for all Festival goers who still have their wristbands. Learn more about The Fairlanes at www.thefairlanes.net
